Urlicht is a German word meaning "Primeval Light." It is also the title of a poem written in 1808 by Ludwig Achem von Arnim and Clemens Brentano, part of a collection they called Das Knaben Wunderhorn (The Youth's Magic Horn). Several of the poems from this anthology, including Urlicht, were set to music by Gustav Mahler between 1888 and 1902. Mahler used the ethereal Urlicht as the fourth movement of his Symphony Number 2.
