Monitor calibration

Most computer monitors are not optimized for viewing photography, particularly black and white images. If you use your cinouter mostly for reading text, you probably have the contrast too low. For a quick and approximate adjustment, look at this:

Do you see ten distinct shades of gray, ranging from pure white to pure black? If not, you should adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast until you do. I promise it will enhance your enjoyment of the photography on this site.

A more complete monitor calibration procedure used to be available at the ZoneZero web site. though I have not checked recently.
